SD2IEC Micro
What is SD2IEC micro?
SD2IEC micro is a SD card reader for Commodore computers like the C64 or C128. The board is connected to the computer instead of the floppy disk drive and thus enables access to many thousands of floppy disks comfortably from the microSD card! Not only that, but it is also much faster and more reliable than the “classic” floppy disk. SD2IEC micro makes it possible to read and write .PRG files directly, but also floppy disk images like D64, D71, D81, M2I,… can be read without problems. The SD card can easily be inserted into the computer to copy games, programs, etc. to it.
The board itself
It is an improved and much more compact (4.2cm x 2.4cm) version of the original board from “Shadowolf”. It is 100% compatible to the official sd2iec firmware. The board is designed for external and internal operation, so it can be built into the C64 or operated externally in a separate case. In addition, the board offers connection options for keys for fast floppy disk change, further external LEDs and setting options for the device ID. For the experts among you the board also offers an ICSP interface for reprogramming the microcontroller.
That sounds complicated! Is it easy?
It’s not easy to get started, but I have written a documentation about using the sd2iec basic functions and a great link collection, which is available. This will certainly make it much easier to get started!
Firmware Updates
No problem. The sd2iec firmware can be easily updated via the microSD card – no complicated programming required! Everything is described in the documentation!
What is required?
There is a version for internal installation in the Commodore computer or for external operation.

Was ist SD2IEC micro?
SD2IEC micro ist quasi ein SD-Kartenleser für Commodore-Computer wie z.B. den C64 oder C128. Die Platine wird anstelle dem Diskettenlaufwerk an den Computer angeschlossen und ermöglicht somit den Zugriff auf viele tausend Disketten bequem von microSD-Karte aus! Nicht nur das, es ist auch wesentlich schneller und zuverlässiger als die “klassische” Diskette. SD2IEC micro ermöglicht es direkt .PRG Dateien zu lesen und auch zu schreiben, aber auch Disketten-Images wie D64, D71, D81, M2I,… können damit problemlos gelesen werden. Die SD-Karte lässt sich auf einfach in den Computer stecken, um die Spiele, Programme, etc. darauf zu kopieren.
Zur Platine selbst
Es handelt sich um eine verbesserte und deutlich kompaktere (4.2cm x 2.4cm) Version der Original Platine von “Shadowolf”. Sie ist damit 100% kompatibel zur offiziellen sd2iec-Firmware. Die Platine ist für den externen und internen Betrieb konzipiert, kann also in den C64 eingebaut oder extern in einem separaten Gehäuse betrieben werden. Zusätzlich bietet die Platine Anschlussmöglichkeiten für Tasten zum schnellen Diskettenwechsel, weitere externe LEDs und Einstellmöglichkeiten für die Geräte-ID. Für die Experten unter euch bietet die Platine auch eine ICSP-Schnittstelle, mit der sich der Mikrocontroller umprogrammieren lässt.
Das klingt kompliziert! Ist das einfach?
Der Einstieg ist nicht ganz einfach, aber ich habe eine Dokumentation zur Verwendung der sd2iec Grundfunktionen geschrieben und eine tolle Linksammlung ist verfügbar. Damit ist der Einstieg sicherlich wesentlich einfacher!
Firmware-Updates
Kein Problem! Die sd2iec-Firmware lässt sich einfach über die microSD-Karte aktualisieren – keine komplizierten Programmierungen nötig! Alles in der Dokumentation beschrieben!
